First Day of Fall '10

I had Kevin take a first day of school photo for me. I'm taking 3 classes this semester, just like I did this past Spring. It's nice because they're one right after the other . . . the bad part is that it's a looong night of school. It was fun to see so many familiar faces from my last two semesters . . . it's like a big mix of last fall and last spring. So far we have a really good group of people in our classes and I'm hoping that as the program winds down we'll all be able to study for the final exams and comprehensive exams.

Here's to another semester . . . let's go!

Poetry Exam = over for now

Tonight was my 2nd attempt at a poetry "explication." I managed to pull together a few classmates and we studied for the last few days and we then took the test today. I'm hoping we all passed because I definitely do not want to study for this anymore!

Last night my old friend, Henry Truong, was in town for the evening and met up with me and Sherri after my study session at Kincaid's and we had a little bit of food and after that Sherri went home but Henry couldn't resist the local karaoke at Mickie Finz's . . . so we of course stopped by there and he sang three songs. First he did a Michael Buble, then Tim McGraw and lastly, Eminem haha.

It was great to catch up, especially since I haven't seen Henry since our wedding last May!

School starts Monday . . . now that this test is over . . . I can actually concentrate on the upcoming school. It's exciting that Lindy and Sherri are both attending grad school this year too . . . which is fun - we are soo smart haha jk!

The Strand

Today we went to support the brewery that Kevin is interning at. It's called The Strand and is a local beer, brewed in Torrance, CA. For the last few weeks Kevin has been putting in about 30-40 hours a week helping out the brewer (Joel) and the face of the company (Rich) who sells the beer to different restaurants and pubs.

There were many other breweries represented there today and it was interesting to see all the different brands that were giving out tastes of their beers.

I took some photos for the brewery so hopefully they can post them on their facebook or just use it as some advertising. It was a fun day, but unfortunately we also had to go to work afterwards, so couldn't stay too long.

Best Birthday Ever!

I think 28 is turning into one fantastic year already. My birthday was spent getting everyone together and heading to Santa Monica Pier - there were 8 of us embarking on this crazy day of trapeze - Me, Kevin, Erik (it was his bday too), Carrie, Jamie, Jessie, Susie and Marisa. A few people had issues with heights and yet still attempted and succeeded in our trapeze experience :)

We were a little late getting there due to southern California traffic, haha, but ended up with enough time for each person to have 3 swings on the trapeze and then a 4th attempt at a release move. We initially practiced a knee hang, which was swinging out, looping your legs through and hanging like on a monkey bar, then letting go and looking for the catcher. By the last attempt, we were able to quickly swing out, loop our legs, let go and then the catcher caught our arms and we let go. Most of us were able to successfully complete the release swing - but we only had one chance so hopefully next time we will be able to practice more.

After that we went to lunch at Enterprise Fish Company, which was delicious, and then headed to Lucky Strike bowling alley later that evening. All in all it was a fantastic day and one of the best birthday's I've ever had!

Enjoy the photos below :)

Making T-Shirts

Tonight Carrie and I made T-Shirts that said RBTC - which stands for Redondo Beach Trapeze Club. We are so excited and it's tomorrow!

My mom and dad visited this weekend to help move Lindy into her new home in Huntington Beach. She will start CSU Fullerton next Monday.

My parents also helped me build my new dresser that I got for my birthday! It was very fun, but tiring.

So glad it is all done and built.

Can't wait for tomorrow!

I Made It!

So, I made it through the wisdom teeth surgery and am back up and running. It was a little touch and go but I had a great nurse (Lindy) and Kev helped me out a lot as well.

The night before the big surgery Janna was kind enough to make me my last meal. It was so good and great company! Janna, Jules, Kevin, Lindy and even Janna's mom [Nana] made an appearance to entertain us. We had lots of food, drinks and laughs and it was a great way to try and forget about the horrendous day that was quickly approaching.

I brought cupcakes from the Yellow Vase for dessert but they were actually quite disappointing - very dry. But we were in luck because Janna had made this amazing dessert that we all wanted to learn how to make.

These are some photos of me, slightly swollen, and my top two teeth that they kept for me after they extracted them. The bottom two had to be broken so they weren't salvageable. It was actually not that bad, I didn't come out of the surgery too groggy [which Kevin was disappointed about] and then spent the next few days on the couch, watching movies. Lindy and I pretty much rented every good movie out there and re-watched two seasons of Arrested Development while I was recovering.

Anyway . . . I went back to work yesterday and it was a little tough, had some headaches and pain but today ended up being a lot easier.

And, Kevin passed his EMT certification test so he can now be an EMT. Congratulations, Kev!

Next up - trapeze!!

August is Here

Well, June and July have flown by and now we're into August. August is a month that I look forward to because it's my birthday month and the weather is usually nice - get a little beach time in. Buuuut . . . this August is shaping up to be a little different than past years. First of all, I am scheduled to have my wisdom teeth out [yes, finally] on August 6th. Normally I would be nervous about this but not petrified, seeing as how many people [usually teenagers] do this all the time. However, my situation is more difficult because all four of my teeth are impacted and the roots on my wisdom teeth are very long and touch the nerves in my jaw. Hence, I could have nerve damage once the surgery is over. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well and I'm just a little achy and tired when it is all said and done.

The weather here has also been pretty overcast and gloomy - which works well for when I'm scheduled a patio shift and get called off, but not great beach days. Also, August here reminds me that I will be returning to school at the end of this month and that I really need to study for that poetry exam that I didn't pass the first time. I only get two more chances and would really like to have it passed this time so I can move on.

One plus about this month is that we are setting up a trapeze day to celebrate my birthday/just finally doing trapeze.

I have actually been wanting to do a trapeze class for about two years now and decided that this was the year to do it [as long as I survive my wisdom teeth surgery] and found some friends at work who also wanted to partake in this crazy event. This is located in Santa Monica on the pier and is supposed to be right on the water and really fun.

So . . . I'm trying to not think about the wisdom teeth but will enjoy having four days off from work - and then focus on my upcoming trapeze/birthday.
