Grilled Cheese Truck!

A few months ago my friend and co-worker, Janna, told me about an event she had been to in Long Beach which was like a food festival of food trucks.  Apparently food trucks are the up-and-coming thing to happen - especially since a lot of chefs and restaurant owners can't afford a whole restaurant, but can put their talents into a smaller operation and drive their trucks to a destination and have people line up for their food.  Well, the grilled cheese truck was apparently the biggest draw at this event Janna attended and told me some people waited up to 2 hours in line for a grilled cheese sandwich.

So of course I had to find out more about this and began following the truck on twitter, which sends daily updates of the grilled cheese truck's locations and where they would be that day.  I've been waiting and waiting and finally they came to the South Bay!  On Thursday Kevin and I went to El Segundo and in the middle of their "industry" area - where they have lots of businesses and there was the grilled cheese truck :)

I think it definitely lived up to its reputation and their specialty is a grilled cheese sandwich with macaroni and cheese inside, as well as pulled pork and caramelized onions.  Kevin got that sandwich, I got the regular grilled cheese w/mac 'n cheese inside.  We also shared some sweet potato tater tots :)

Mmmm mmmm mmmm.

Brooks showed up later that night - he had been visiting friends in San Diego and stopped by to visit on his way back to Santa Barbara.  Of course he had to try out the beer from the brewery Kevin is working at:

And after hearing all about the grilled cheese truck, he decided to try a sandwich that is very similar and also delicious from a new restaurant in the Riviera Village called Sophie's.  His sandwich is called a Ma[p] and Cheese - basically just like the grilled cheese with mac 'n cheese and pulled pork and onions from the truck.

As always, it was great to see Brooks and catch up :)

30 Day Shred

One of my friends, and fellow bloggers, Jenn Perry at ThePickleJar blog, did these workouts awhile ago.  I remember reading about her workouts and how hard it was but that she was finding great results.  I noticed the other day that this workout DVD was available on Netflix, so I added it to my list and got it yesterday.

Let me just tell you that my first workout was crazy - and I thought I was going to throw-up like twice.  Luckily I didn't . . . but we'll see how tomorrow goes haha

Ask and You Shall Receive

I posted our anniversary photos and how the gift for this year was paper.  My friend Shannon is going to celebrate her 7th anniversary with her husband Stephen and was asking what gift that would be.  So of course my trusty Google helped me out and this is the list I found.  This will come in handy for me when I need to know what the upcoming year's gift will be.

1st Anniversary- The first anniversary is the year of paper.

2nd Anniversary – The second anniversary is cotton

3rd Anniversary- The third anniversary gift is leather.

4th Anniversary- Linen is the fourth anniversary gift.

5th Anniversary- Wood is fifth anniversary gift.

6th Anniversary- The sixth anniversary is iron.

7th Anniversary- Depending on who you ask, the seven year anniversary is either copper or wool.

8th Anniversary- Bronze is the eighth anniversary gift.

9th Anniversary- Pottery is the ninth anniversary.

10th Anniversary- Tin or Aluminum is the gifts for 10 years of bliss.

11th Anniversary- Eleven years of marriage equal a gift of Steel.

12th Anniversary- Silk is the twelfth anniversary gift.

13th Anniversary- The thirteenth anniversary is that of Lace.

14th Anniversary- Ivory is the gift fourteen years of marriage.

15th Anniversary – Fifteen years of wedded bliss earn you Crystal.

20th Anniversary- Twentieth Anniversary is the gift of China.

25th Anniversary- Twenty five years of marriage is also known as The Silver Anniversary.

30th Anniversary- Pearl is the gift of a thirty year anniversary.

35th Anniversary- Coral or Jade is the gifts for this anniversary.

40th Anniversary- The fortieth year anniversary gift is Ruby.

45th Anniversary- Sapphires represent forty years of marriage.

50th Anniversary- The Golden Anniversary is among one of the well known.

55th Anniversary- Emeralds are the gifts of this year.

60th Anniversary- Sixty years of being married most certainly deserves Diamonds.

65th Anniversary- Blue Sapphires are the gifts of this year.

70th Anniversary- Platinum gifts are representative of seventy platinum years of marriage.
.
75th Anniversary- Once again Diamond is the gift of choice.

80th Anniversary- Oak represents eighty years of marriage.

First of all - to be married 80 years, you must have been really young when you got married.  Shannon and Stephen actually have a good chance of making it - but they will still be about 100 years old.  Here's to good genes and medical science to keep us getting older.  I also like how after 15 years of marriage it jumps to every 5 years as a milestone.  I guess they all lump together at that point.  Anyway . . . to any of your married people out there, wonder how many of these you've managed to accomplish?

P.S. Those are not the same couples - just images from Google, but thought they were funny haha.

1st Anniversary

Although it's been about 4 months since our first anniversary, I never posted pictures!  So, now is the time. Our anniversary was actually on Mother's Day and in true restaurant fashion, it was a long, hectic, busy day.  I actually worked back to back doubles that weekend and was on a 14-hour shift on our actual anniversary.  Luckily Kevin was working too, so we spent the day together, though it wasn't exactly fun.

We were so wiped out and exhausted after that day but our great friends at Kincaid's made it special by bringing in a cake, and a giant cookie.

The managers let us all hang out after work, eat some of our anniversary cake with the crew and have a glass of wine.  We were planning on doing something special for our anniversary the following Monday, since my last week of classes were upon me, and Kevin surprised me with tickets to a Lakers play-off game, since the one year anniversary gift is paper.

It was a great surprise and something we had kept talking about wanting to do but hadn't gotten a chance to, until this day.

After the game we were planning on heading to one restaurant that was an actual old railroad train, but after 10 minutes there we decided to leave because it was so stuffy and not fun at all.  Luckily Morton's was still open so we headed there and, as a restaurant I've wanted to dine at for year's, it didn't disappoint.

They printed out special menu's for us because of our anniversary and took a picture at the end.  It was delicious food, excellent service and a perfect evening.

Can't believe it's taken so long for me to post.  Oh, by the way, I transferred all of Kevin's old football and high school tapes into DVD's so that way we can actually watch them, since I don't remember the last time we had a VCR.

Great first anniversary!

SOA

Sons of Anarchy Season 3 just started airing on TV, but I'm still on Season 2 and trying to watch all the episodes so I can start watching the newest season.  This show isn't a feel-good happy go-lucky show, but I think it's interesting and a guilty pleasure.

Week 2 of classes are done . . . I have a feeling that the semester is going to feel a little slow going by . . . but as always, I'm sure finals will be here in no time and I'll wonder where the time went.  One more semester - 2 more classes after this semester.  It's getting down to the final stretch.

Trash the Dress

These are oldies but goodies.  A few months after we got engaged, I started looking at lots of websites and found a local photographer who was doing a Trash the Dress event at an airplane museum.  Of course I thought that it would be a good idea to take part in this, though I was not yet married or had an extra wedding dress.  So, ultimately, I bought a dress on eBay - a little crazy, I know, and conned our wedding photographer/friend Erik to take pictures.

Oh, and Lindy came along as well.  She had a left-over dress from all of our years of festa's and they even had a make-up and hair person at this event.  We had such a great time and I loved all the photo's Erik took.  Oh, and that photo of us on the plane, we weren't supposed to even touch the planes, let alone be on the wing haha.  There were about 10-15 brides [or not-quite brides] here and about 5-10 photographers.  It was such a great experience and I'm so glad we did this.

Travel

My friend Shannon posted this great link on her blog, which she got from her friend's blog, and you put in all the states and countries you've visited.  I somehow thought I had seen more places, haha, but apparently the world is a big place.

These are all the states I've been to.  Seems like a cross-country trip is in order, if this is to tell me anything.  I do have a goal of seeing Disney World, which is in Florida, a state I haven't been to!  Two-for-one type of trip sounds good to me.

Thanks for posting this, Shannon!  It's really cool.

Degas

Last night in class we were instructed to grab a postcard out of a pile and write about it.  We were supposed to explain why the picture initially attracted itself to us and what we thought about it.  After we were done with that we got in groups and discussed our views of our postcards.  I wasn't sure why I liked this postcard, but I was instantly attracted to it.  After awhile I turned it over and realized that one of my favorite artists, Degas, had created this image.

When Kevin and I backpacked around Europe, we went to many museums and I discovered a series of paintings about dancers.  Degas was the artist of these and then, five years later, it was that artist's image that I grabbed out of all those postcards.  Funny, isn't it.

On a side note . . . I have the entire day off today because I was supposed to go to a day spa with Carrie but it didn't work out, so instead I'm hoping that Kevin and I can go to Disneyland later tonight.  It's one of the last days of the World of Color show they're putting on and I'm hoping that Kevin and I will get there early afternoon.  Kevin had to work at the Strand this morning but should be off soon.

This will also probably be one of our last chances to use our Disney passes before they expire.
