This is our "ocean view" lol I guess we'll take what we can get

New apartment is almost all moved in - at least all the big stuff is moved and now we just have to clean the other apartment. It was nice that they gave us over a week to move all our stuff so it wasn't a mad dash to get it all done. Of course I have papers, projects and finals coming up but at least it keeps things interesting. I'm posting some pictures of the new place and excited to have it finally getting settled.

Moving on Up . . .

Soooo after feeling cramped in our one bedroom apartment for quite awhile now, we finally decided to take the leap and move to a 2 bedroom apartment within the complex we live in right now. The 2 bedroom is one floor up from where our 1 bedroom is right now, which is nice because we'll be able to start moving stuff up there as soon as Saturday. We officially move in on May 1st and it has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 balconies, a dishwasher and more space. I know my Modesto friends will laugh at this and think, um, I've had a dishwasher forever or whatever but I literally haven't had a dishwasher since I moved out of my parents' house to go to UCSB in 2003. It will be such a relief to have more room and an office to do homework and study in as well as a balcony to put our bikes on so they don't keep getting stolen.

The funny part about it all is that we went to look at the 2 bedroom on the 19th of April, which was exactly 3 years to the day that we moved into this apartment complex. It was almost like a sign that we are ready to move on, after 3 years, to something bigger. Plus our one year anniversary is coming up on May 9th, so I told Kevin that a dishwasher is a great gift for our one year :)

So, between the two of us in school this semester and both working 5 days a week, we now have to get our apartment ready to move in two weeks, but I'm sure it will be fine and it will all work out. I'm excited to move but also know we have a lot of work ahead of us!

iPad . . .

A crazy article about someone stealing an iPad - crazy people!!

"Robber Steals Man's iPad & Part Of His Finger"

A Colorado man has suffered permanent damage to his hand after a robber made off with the victim's new iPad, and a good chunk of his pinky finger.

According to the victim, he'd just left the Apple store at the Cherry Creek Mall in Denver, where he'd purchased an iPad as a favor for a co-worker. As he walked through the parking garage, he noticed someone trying to tug the bag out of his hand.

Let's have him tell it:

He was almost sitting on the ground he was pulling so hard and it was still tied around my fingers; and it wouldn't come off and then finally he gave it one big jerk; and that's when he stripped the skin off my pinky and it went right down to the bone.

Still in shock, he stopped some of the bleeding with napkins from a nearby food vendor before being taken to the hospital. Ultimately, it was decided that a portion of his left pinky would need to be amputated.

In a message to the robber(s), he says, "I hope you understand what you've done to my life and my family's life for a simple piece of apparatus that'll be junk in a couple of years."

Money Does Make People Happy :)

I just read an article on aol.com about how people that counted money in a study were happier when faced with something unpleasant than those who counted blank sheets of paper. The people knew they weren't going to keep the money they were counting, but they were still more pleasant. See, this just goes to prove my point [and Kevin can back me up on this] that I'm happy when counting our money lol . . . even if it's all going towards bills or whatever.

Things in the Works

In mid-May I'll be halfway through my graduate program at CSU Dominguez Hills and hopefully ready to teach at a junior college once graduated. I've wondered if there will be any jobs for me once I do graduate [especially seeing how all my friends in Modesto are taking pay cuts and getting pink slips left and right]. But I went to a website today that posts open jobs and saw that a lot of local JC's here were hiring and then Kevin spoke with a girl named Diane tonight who is the person that told me about the program in the first place and she's working at Santa Monica junior college right now and loves it. I got her number and will be in contact with her since she's the only person I know who's gone through the program [and now has a job teaching] and can hopefully give me some tips on what to do while still in the program and how to apply and get a job once I'm out. The light at the end of the tunnel is starting to get a little bit brighter :)

Spring Break Goes By So Quickly!

Last week was spring break and instead of a typical spring break, I worked everyday and also had two papers due the following Monday to worry about. My friend Brooks also arrived on Thursday because the baseball team he's coaching was playing Palos Verdes so we went to watch the game on Friday. My parents then arrived on Saturday to visit for Easter weekend and unfortunately I was working most of the weekend but was able to see them for a little bit here and there. On Easter I had to work a double - and there was an earthquake! - but I was actually off work for the hour of the earthquake and spent it at my apartment with my family.

Kevin and I also bought our plane tickets to Chicago/Indiana and are very excited to see everything and the whole Triplett clan this June.
