Baby's Room

I had about two weeks off after my Winter class ended before Olivia was born and I spent that time taking care of Kevin (he had shoulder surgery), watching the Winter Olympics, and setting up the baby's room.

Our friends Bert and Sung had given us this monkey stuffed animal at the baby shower and we used it to practice out our new baby stuff.

We got two outfits (one boy and one girl) for the baby's coming home outfit.  We didn't end up using either because the girl outfit was too cold for the day we took her home (it was a rainy weekend).

Carrie and Justin gave us the bedding for Olivia's bed - super cute - thanks guys!

We are keeping the bed in Olivia's room for when my parents or people
stay over until she is actually in her room full time.

Baby Olivia Marie Rena!

On February 24th, 2014 at 7:44pm, Olivia Marie Rena (pronounced Renee) was born.  She was 7 pounds, 6 ounces and 18 inches long.  She was also born with a full head of hair, much to my surprise :)  Her middle names comes from each of her grandmothers' middle names.

Approximately 4:30am - went to the hospital after over 2 hours of contractions at about 5 minutes apart.  I had been having contractions most of Sunday the 23rd but it wasn't until about 9pm that they started to get stronger and closer together.

The goal - healthy mom/baby.  We didn't know what we were having
but fingers crossed for a healthy baby.

I progressed most of the day very quickly - I was at 8 centimeters by about 9 or 10am.  However, things stalled at 8 centimeters and after over 2 hours of intense contractions at this dilation, I opted for an epidural.  Lindy had been there most of the day and I was in too much pain to even chat with her - after the epidural we were chatting about TV shows and movies.  We even watched a few episodes of "Friends" on TV in the room :)  Sherri came by after she got off work from her first day at her new job - literally the day she requested the baby not be born on.  Sorry, Sherri!

Baby Olivia is born!  They swept her away pretty quickly to get her cleaned up and suction her lungs, but I realized that no one had announced what gender the baby was.  I called out to Kevin to ask and he quickly ran over and said, "It's a boy!"  Then he went back over to the baby and realized that it was the umbilical cord and he was actually a she.  We were both in shock because I think we were both pretty convinced we were having a boy (mostly because the whole Triplett side of the family are boys).  This was a very pleasant surprise :)

Olivia and me - such a pretty baby

Lindy, Sherri, Matt and Jim Joe were all waiting in the waiting room playing
Mexican Train waiting for the baby to be born.  Once they all came in
we told them that the baby was a girl.  They were excited :)

My parents were not ready to come down since Olivia was four days early, but they left
Monday night after work and got to the hospital around 11pm that night.  They were very
excited to meet their granddaughter.  My mom didn't believe Kevin when he called her
on their way to tell her that we had a girl.  She said she had to see the baby to believe it :)

                                                       Welcome to the family Olivia!

Prepping for Baby

This blog post is a little belated but I'm writing it anyway :)

I obviously didn't keep my blog up over the summer or during the last semester; however, the big news was that I was pregnant!

Here are some pictures of everything I didn't keep up with:

Surprise!  Two lines :)

First sonogram - 9 weeks, 5 days

The three pregnant girls at the Verissimo Bash - I was due February 28th (and we weren't finding out the gender), Shannon was due in January with a boy (Tyler) and Ashlie was due in November with a girl (Andie)

At Jared and Abbey's wedding in Santa Barbara for the weekend

At class in Pepperdine for the weekend in December

At home with Matilda for Christmas (we put the baby's bib on
Matilda from aunt Kathi so we could practice)

My cousin Megan and I posing - she was due in January with a boy
(Grayson) and this was her fourth baby

In Rome at 8 months pregnant for the New Year

Baby Shower #1 in Modesto :)

Huge!

Doctor's appointment one month before baby came

In Santa Monica after Lindy's trapeze class the day before I went into labor

This ended up being the day that labor started -
this picture was taken earlier in the day

In the hospital!  Waited for contractions to be about 5
minutes apart for over two hours before we headed to the hospital.
Admitted at 4:30am.

By the way - the hospital gown I am wearing was made by my godmother,
aunt Sandy, and it was a huge hit at the hospital.  Every single person who came
in the room or saw me that worked there commented on my gown and everyone
wanted their own gown, too.  Thanks, aunt Sandy!

First 1/2 Marathon!

Memorial Day Weekend I did my first Half Marathon!  I was very excited to actually do it and finish the race.  Before this I had only done 5k's and 10k's.  It was in Ojai and was called the Mountains to Beach 1/2 marathon.
Luckily my friend Somer and her friends Katie and Vanessa had already planned on doing it so I sort of tagged along and joined them on this crazy event.

 Headed down the final stretch!
Katie and I found each other at about the 8-mile marker and ended up running the rest of it step for step and helped each other finish.

They even called our names as we crossed the finish line :)

Somer finishing the race.  She had told me that she might call me during it and I told her that I wouldn't answer haha.  But she said she increased her speed from her last 1/2 marathon by about 30 minutes.
 Me, Somer, Vanessa and Katie.
Whoo hoo!!!  Done!!

P.S.  My last two miles of this race were brutal.  My back hurt so bad and my left knee still hurts if I run further than 1.5 miles - but I'm glad I did it!!  I'm hoping to do a Disneyland one next :)
