Girl's Night Out

Tiff and I decided to hang out on Saturday night and have dinner at Bistro 234.  The funny thing is that Kev was on Big Bryan's bachelor party and I didn't know what his fiancee, Sandy, was doing, but she said that her friends were taking her to a secret location.  Well, Tiff and I found out that Sandy and her bachelorette crew were at Bistro 234 with us lol

Tiff and I had a fun night at dinner and then a piano bar after - very fun time in Turlock :)

Visiting Emilie :)

Kevin had to go home for Big Bryan's bachelor party and Ashlie suggested I come home with him to meet and visit Emilie, which was a great idea.  Kevin and Martin headed up to Pinecrest to meet up with the bachelor party and I stayed and hung out with Emilie (and Ash haha)

Shh, baby's sleeping :)

Looking at Emilie's super cute baby shoes

Now she's awake

She's like, uh, who are you? haha

Sunday night the guys had come back from the bachelor party and we went back over to Martin and Ashlie's to hang out a little longer and have a little BBQ.

Aw, what a good dad

Me and Emilie - she's stretching :)

Proud mama :)

It was so nice to finally meet Ashlie's daughter and get to hang out with her a little without the pressure of having to go to a million places this weekend.  I can't wait to see them again and hold that little peanut :)

Hollywood Bowl

I am so happy that our anniversary is over because we have seriously drug this thing out lol.  We decided to get an iPad 2 for our anniversary, but of course I bought it in like March, so it was like, well we still need to buy something else.  Then when my parents were here we bought an entertainment center for our TV and to take up all the space on the wall - 2nd anniversary gift for ourselves.  Then we went to Disneyland on our actual day of anniversary, renewed our season passes and had dinner at the Blue Bayou.  Then, as a surprise, I had bought Kevin concert tickets to the Zac Brown Band at the Hollywood Bowl for Saturday.

The whole experience was really great and it was definitely the best concert I've ever been to (sorry, Sherri, it was better than Hanson haha).  We were able to take a shuttle from Torrance all the way into Hollywood for only $8 per person, round trip and then we didn't have to worry about driving, traffic or parking.  Parking at the Hollywood Bowl appeared to be a gigantic nightmare so I'm so happy we didn't have to deal with it.

(These are not actual photos I took because, if you can believe it, I forgot my camera)

But this is pretty much how it looked - and the cool thing was that we could see the Hollywood sign from our seats.  A band called Blackberry Smoke opened for Zac Brown and they were really good.

Then, Zac Brown Band came on.

The band was so good and all of their songs sounded even better live than on the radio.

All of the guys were great musicians and it was so fun to sing along.  All of the guys in the band really seemed to love what they were doing and having a fun time with it, which was nice.  They even thanked all of us for coming and spending our money on tickets so they could play music, which was sweet.

Overall, it was a fantastic experience and we definitely want to go see something else at the Hollywood Bowl, especially since now it's so easy to get there.  And, thank God, our anniversary celebration is finally over!  I can't afford any more lol

2nd Anniversary :)

Today was our 2nd wedding anniversary and we decided to go to Disneyland for the day and have dinner at the Blue Bayou restaurant in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

They were working on a new entrance to California Adventure so this was up for now

Kev really wanted to eat a turkey leg, didn't end up getting one, and then discovered it was haunting him throughout the park, reminding him that he didn't get one haha

I watched a short movie about Disneyland and discovered that you could actually go into Sleeping Beauty's castle (something I've obviously always wanted to do) so we made it our mission to find the entrance - and yup, there it was :)  When you go in, it takes you on a little tour/story of Sleeping Beauty

We got anniversary pins

The new Cars Land - under construction

Dinner at Blue Bayou - yum

We never got around to eating the top of our wedding cake last year so I saved it for this year - uh, yeah, we did not end up eating it - I couldn't even really stick a knife in it haha.  But it still looks pretty :)

For the 2nd anniversary the gift is supposed to be cotton so, after trying to find a shirt I wanted from a store in the village, Kevin gave up and took me shopping on Saturday.  I picked out two tops I wanted, thus fulfilling the cotton.  I bought Kevin (as a surprise) tickets for the Zac Brown Band this Saturday at the Hollywood Bowl and he said he wants to possibly get a concert T-Shirt, so that will count as his cotton gift :)

UPDATE:  The Sleeping Beauty castle has been unavailable for people to go into since 2001.  It re-opened Thanksgiving 2008.  And apparently they forgot to tell me because it is now 2011 and I am just finding out about this!

Friends

On Thursday (Cinco de Mayo), I decided to stop by Kristie's new work (Sophie's) and hang out with her for a bit because I hadn't had a chance to see her since she quit Kincaids.  Vanessa, her friend Mary and our friend Jessie were hanging out when I got to Sophie's after class.  Kevin met up with us too and then we headed over to HT Grill (but Jessie had to go home after Sophie's).

Mary, Vanessa, Kev, me and Kristie

It was nice to hang out with everyone and catch up for awhile - hope it doesn't take as long next time :)

Easter 2011

This is a late post but we celebrated Easter with my parents (and Matilda), Sherri, Jim Joe and Lindy.  The Easter Bunny came early since Kevin and I both had to work early on Easter day.

It was great to see my parents and for them to drive all the way down to Redondo to celebrate with us.  We then had a great Easter dinner at Sherri's house with some of her friends/roommates.

Books, books, books

It has been awhile since I have written but I had a lot going on.  First, I may be slightly obsessed with the Redondo Beach Library and am checking out tons of books (and reading most of them) but I should probably be strictly doing homework instead.  But, I'm not, so oh well.  The week before Easter I had a huge huge huge super stressful paper/project for my teacher who wasn't satisfied with any of my topics and resulted in over a week of constant e-mails and me giving ideas and he shooting them down.  But somewhere in there I also managed to read a lot and get that project done too.

I really loved the book Little Bee and this was by the same author so I figured that I would probably like it too.  My issue with this book, though it was a good idea (a mother is writing a letter to Osama bin Laden asking him to stop what he's doing because her son and husband died during one of his terrorist attacks).  The whole novel is basically just a letter but you forget that it's just a letter and it's a fast-moving book but somewhere in there it takes a strange turn and I was not as fond of it as Little Bee.  (And now that bin Laden's dead I wonder if it would change how people read it).  Also, when looking this book up for the cover image, it appears that it was made into a movie in 2008 so I might just have to watch it and see how it plays out on screen.

I wanted to sort of read all the books on Oprah's book club list and this was one she had chosen awhile ago.  This is sort of set up to be a mystery, but the pay-off of the mystery is not as great as the build-up, therefore letting me down and wanting to say, really, that's it?  That's why you people couldn't move past your issues?  But it's a touching story of a family who comes together when their parents die tragically in a car accident and the two older brothers are left to raise the younger girls and keep the family together.  Not my favorite but it was okay.

One of my friends suggested reading this because the movie is coming out and it would be fun to read it and then see the movie.  I had no desire to read this book and had seen it around for quite some time in the bookstores but checked it out from my favorite library :) and read it super quick and actually really enjoyed it.  So of course I had to read the sequel.

This is not being turned into a movie (that I know of) but it's from the other friend's perspective and a different story of what happens next.  I liked it a lot - or it could be the fact that the character visits London and I love London :)  Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised by both of these books and they are very fun to read and I suggest them to those who want a breezy, easy book to get into.

I think that there may have been some other books I read in there but if I remember any others I'll have to post them later.  In the meantime I have also been reading for school (don't worry, mom).

Two more weeks and then the semester is over!  And then I can read all summer if I want haha.
