Whew!

Though I usually handle stress pretty well, Tuesday night at work I felt like I was the closest to an anxiety attack I had ever felt in my life. I had to close at work, write a 5-page paper due the next night at 8:15, work on a presentation I had to give at 2:30 the next day and then also take my proficiency test at Kincaid's at 6pm. I think Kevin was even worried for my mental health at one point because I was just so stressed out and upset.

I had to just bite the bullet and give into the Kincaid's mentality and study, study, study. I gave my presentation at school on Wed, then drove home and studied more and then took my proficiency test at 6, which I passed and was so relieved that it was over. Then I drove back to school, did some group projects and turned in my paper.

All in all, so happy it is all over. I am home in Modesto this weekend for Amy's bridal shower and am actually happy to be home because I get to relax and not have to worry about working Amy's shower was at La Morenita's and we had a great time catching up with everyone.

I hope to catch up on much needed sleep and relaxation. I am also starting a new book called Little Bee by Chris Cleave.

So far I absolutely love this book and am so glad I bought it - though I'm only 45 pages in, it's very intriguing and interesting. I can't wait to get further into it.

Tired

This upcoming week is going to be pretty stressful. I have a paper due tomorrow, a presentation on Wednesday and then we also have to do a big test at work and if we don't pass it, we could possibly get fired. We have had meetings for the last two weeks, two hours a day, going over new menu items and new wines. I think that literally every single one of us are so stressed out that I could just break. I can not wait until this week is over.

Please let this week just end . . . and we all still have our jobs. And still do well in school. Argh!

Rough few months . . .

I had really great expectations for 2010. I thought, this is the year we get out of any credit card debt/debt we might have and actually save some money - wow, what a thought! I thought, this is the year we get things figured out and maybe move into a 2 bedroom apartment and have more space for ourselves and our stuff. I thought, this is the year we get ahead, this is the year I get my wisdom teeth out and get over halfway done with my Master's program. I thought, maybe this year we can do something really cool for Kevin's birthday and have a great time.

I don't know if those things will or won't happen [I'm keeping my fingers crossed they do!] but so far we have had some weird and crazy things happen this year.

Most recently I had that crazy woman call me and accuse me of sleeping with her husband. She then proceeded to call over ten times the next day [Thursday] and leave me six pretty nasty voicemails. Luckily she hasn't called since Thursday so I'm hoping that this has blown over or she just took her medication and realized she was nuts.

I went to the dentist in January [an oral surgeon] to see about getting my wisdom teeth out. Unfortunately it appears that I have long roots and they are very close to my nerves in my face and could affect those if they are removed. Then there are all these problems that will occur if I DON'T take them out, basically it's a Catch-22 and there is no real great answer. The dentist proceeded to inform me I should take a $300 scan which would tell them if the roots are touching the nerves and then we could go from there. So basically an unexpected $300 was needed to take this test and then they told me that my actual surgery will cost $1300 when I finally agree to do it. $1300 for pain, stress and surgery?! That's crazy.

Then Kevin's debit card number was used at various USPS stores around Los Angeles. It was weird but used like 6 or 8 times for the same amount but in different cities. We had to call Wells Fargo like a thousand times to get them to cancel the card so these people wouldn't keep using it.

Today was also a bad day because Kevin's Porsche got hit. It was almost worse because someone we knew hit his car with their truck and now his driver's side door is completely crunched in and we don't know what we're going to do. Luckily we have good insurance and obviously it wasn't our fault [Kevin's car was just parked on the side of the street] but it still sucks because we need two cars to get around. Kevin started EMT training last week for a firefighting career and now he goes to school three days a week, I go twice and then we both work a lot. I know it'll all get figured out but it's just like one thing we really didn't need right now.

The Other Woman

Tonight in my 7pm class my phone kept ringing with a blocked call. Usually only my parents' number is a blocked number so once I got out of class I called them to ask if they had been calling me during my class. They told me that they hadn't called me and as we were talking the blocked number was calling on the other line. I switched over and answered the call.

This is how the conversation went:

Me: Hello?
Her: [Silence]
Me: Hello?
Her: How long have you been calling my husband?
Me: Excuse me?
Her: How come you are talking to my man?
Me: Who is this?
Her: How many black men are you talking to?
Me: Um, none. I think you have the wrong number.
Her: Look, Jennifer, your number is in his phone. You are calling him.
Me: Um, no I'm not. Who is this?
Her: How long have you been talking to my husband?
Me: Look, I am married and not looking to talk to anyone else. You have the wrong number.
Her: [mumble, mumble - hangs up]

Um, yeah. This was one of the most random and weird conversations I have ever had. If you are married and my number is in your phone, please tell your wife I am not calling you - okay, thanks!

My favorites

I have to say that I love my iPhone . . . almost obsessively I love it. Admittedly, when my friend Martin [Ashlie's husband] tried to convince me to get it two years ago I adamantly resisted it. I chose instead to get a Blackberry Pearl through Verizon [though I will still argue has the best coverage] because I thought the iPhone was too big, bulky and had the same capability as the Pearl. This past summer I got a new computer [a Mac] and it came with a free iPod Touch. The iPod Touch is like the iPhone but minus the phone part - so therefore I realized just how amazing it is and how much I had to get one. Kevin got me one for my birthday [and he got one too because we had to switch carriers from Verizon to AT&T] and though he really didn't want one, at all, he absolutely loves it now. It just goes to show how awesome the iPhone is and I can never imagine not having one or at least having all the things it does have. The internet is so much faster than the Blackberry Pearl was and it's almost like a mini computer. I love it, love it, love it!

I have never looked at a phone and said, I love this phone, as much as I do with the iPhone. It is a great piece of technology and I absolutely love it and everything about it.

I also love the computer I got - the Mac Book Pro. It is so great and I can't imagine ever going back to a PC - basically Martin & Ash have turned me into a Mac geek. I love the Apple products and love it all - Apple all the way!

In Case You Have Loads of Money to Waste

Many people feel compelled to waste their money on lame things like clothing, food and baby formula. Fortunately, the Internet has made it possible for us to buy virtually anything we can imagine, regardless of how ludicrous it may be.

#8.
The Ability to Walk on Water

Developed by the aptly named company Water Walking Ball, the water walking ball allows you to walk on water... in a ball. For $500.

Of course, that price tag is to buy your own ball. If you go to Water Walking Ball's main location in Myrtle Beach, you can spend $10 to ride inside one for three minutes, which seems a little short until you read a little further on their webpage and realize that the balls can only hold about 30 minutes of breathable air, which effectively ruins our plan to have a Cracked editorial team footrace across the Atlantic Ocean.

For anywhere between $400 and $2000, the Internet dares us to buy gas-cylindered, three-foot tall titanium devices called powerskips. Why would you want them? Because they let you run at incredible speeds and jump over cars.

These cyborg kangaroo feet will turn you into a superhero, and most of us would throw an orphan into a volcano to earn that distinction. This website inexplicably offers both a standard and a pro version, because evidently there is a large enough market for robot speedboots to divide into amateur and professional classifications.

The only real drawback we can see is that if you slip or misstep, you're going to crack your head open at roughly the speed of sound, which isn't even that bad when you consider that the resulting obituary would be the single most entertaining thing ever published.

Between $600 and $1500 will buy you a Phoenix-Fly polyester bodysuit that allows you to glide through the air at incredible speeds, provided you can locate an airplane or cliff you're willing to fling yourself from and you have absolutely no reason whatsoever to live:

The suit basically turns your body into a giant birth defect complete with webbed armpits and a webbed crotch, so we figure anyone who willingly spends over a grand on one was probably going to jump off a mountain anyway.
Still, sort-of flying is seriously cool, despite the fact that to actually utilize your wingsuit you'd have to charter an airplane, which could wind up costing you just as much as the suit every single time you want to use it. So really, you might as well just send Phoenix-Fly your bank account information and throw yourself out of a helicopter. The end result will be the same and you'll save everyone some time.

Winter Days

Well, we don't necessarily get winter here in Southern California, but it is getting chilly and rainy. I guess it should, since it is February! Where has the time gone? Just yesterday it seemed like my first semester had ended and now it's already three weeks into my second semester of school. We are doing lots of training at work for a new menu roll-out that's going to be released throughout our restaurants and having to go to lots of meetings and learning lots of new product. Today we had a three hour wine seminar on new wines being brought to the menu and it was actually quite interesting and entertaining.

Kevin and I got the Wii for Christmas from my parents and have since rented [and bought] the Super Mario Bros. Wii game which is so fun and a total reminder of the old original Nintendo game. We have been playing it for a few weeks now and finally passed the castle - so excited!
